Monthly Update Now Available for all Four Books
The Microsoft 365 for IT Pros writing team is happy to announce that updated EPUB and PDF files are available for the four books in the Microsoft 365 for IT Pros (2027 edition) package:
- Microsoft 365 for IT Pros 2027 (update #134).
- Microsoft Purview for IT Pros 2027 (update #2).
- Automating Microsoft 365 with PowerShell 2027 (update #26).
- Power Platform for IT Pros 2027 (update #2).
In addition, the paperback version of the PowerShell eBook is also updated. Subscribers can fetch the latest files for all books using the download link in your receipt. For more information, see our FAQ.
The change log contains details of where we’ve made changes at a chapter level across the books. Many of the changes made in this update are fit and finish alterations for material added for the 2027 edition, but a reasonable amount of new information has been included, notably in the AI and Agents chapter. As ever, detail is everything when discussing technical topics, and the addition of change of a word might make all the difference.
The Case of the Missing Bookmarks
We are indebted to Jon Pott and (in particular) to Eden Allen for raising the issue of missing bookmarks in our PDFs. As has been our norm since we started to generate eBooks, we force the inclusion of standard headings (heading 1, heading 2, etc.) from our source Word documents as bookmarks in the output PDF. The idea is to make it easier for readers to navigate within the book (Figure 1).
Brave and never observed a problem. Recently, people have been suggesting that we should include bookmarks in our PDFs, an observation that baffled us because we could obviously see the bookmarks.
But we do not follow the same path to fetch a PDF as our readers do. Gumroad personalizes the PDFs it provides to readers, and a bug crept into their code that removed the document outline (which is where PDFs store bookmarks) from the personalized PDFs. Gumroad has now fixed the bug and will soon deploy the fix into production. In the interim, we have stopped personalizing PDFs and any PDF now downloaded from Gumroad should have bookmarks. On to September
The team is already working on the September 2026 update. Quite a few changes advertised by Microsoft are due to land in tenants during August, and these are the ones that we will pay special attention to. We’ll also keep a close eye out for changes that Microsoft doesn’t announce in the Microsoft 365 admin center (the Exchange and Entra teams are prone to discuss new functionality in blog posts).
