The success of the PowerShell Community is rooted in sharing knowledge and code. This makes it difficult when a company like Office 365 Reports (AdminDroid) steals code from PowerShell scripts written by other people and uses the code for their commercial purposes. I don’t like when this happens. I don’t like when the miscreant ignores my protest, so this article explains what happened and why this is a simple case of plagiarism.
Over the next two weeks, I’ll attend and present at the Microsoft Exchange Conference and The Experts Conference (MEC and TEC). It should be fun! It’s nice to see conferences gradually returning to normal. I prefer in-person events and am looking forward to TEC in Atlanta on September 20-21. Before then, there’s the small matter of presenting two sessions at MEC 2022.
The Office 365 for IT Pros team will be at the European Collaboration Summit (ECS) in Dusseldorf. Come to listen to Tony talk about sensitivity labels on Tuesday or Paul discuss tenant to tenant migration on Wednesday. ECS is a great community-led event that’s well worth attending if you find yourself in Europe and have the ability to travel to Germany. Don’t forget your mask!
You can now access videos and slides for sessions given at The Experts Conference 2021. The sessions cover a wide range of technology from Azure AD to Microsoft 365 to infrastructure modernization. And you can now register for TEC 2022, which will run as an in-person event in Atlanta on September 20-21, 2022. It should be great fun!
Quest has acquired Quadrotech to add to their portfolio of Office 365 applications designed to help organizations get date into the cloud and manage it when it’s there. Recent Quest acquisitions of Metalogix, Binary Tree, and now Quadrotech give it a bunch of technology, notably in the area of tenant-to-tenant migrations.
The 2021 edition of the Office 365 for IT Pros ebook will soon be available. Read about an author’s perspective on working on the book and why it’s different to other books.
We’re going to tape an episode of the Office 365 Exposed podcast at 20:00 UTC on April 2 and everyone can join the Teams meeting we’re using to tape the podcast. There’s lots to talk about, including Microsoft’s decision to make Ignite 2019 virtual.
Lots of announcements and other news flowed at the Microsoft Ignite 2019 Conference. Here’s a YouTube playlist for four short videos about interesting topics from the conference. We cover Office 365, Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, and the famous “Office 365 substrate.”
In a session recorded at Microsoft Ignite 2019, Tony Redmond discusses the question of will Microsoft Teams take over from email. The session covers the strengths and weaknesses of both technologies and makes recommendations for how organizations can take full advantage of Teams and email.
Like any technology, Microsoft Teams has some lesser-known parts. At the Ignite 2019 conference, we had the chance to talk about topics from backups to DLP to background blur. You can listen to the recording of the session online and download a copy of the deck here.
Tony and Paul taped episode 17 of the Office 365 Exposed podcast at the Microsoft Ignite 2019 conference with guests Mark Kashman and Ross Smith IV of Microsoft. Topics discussed included SharePoint’s success at reaching 100 million monthly active users, Project Cortex, and Intune.
A busy week included speaking engagements in Germany and Oslo. The Experts Live Norway event saw Tony talk about Office 365 data governance, a topic he thinks he knows well. You can grab a copy of the presentation he used in Oslo from this post.
Over the next few months, Tony will speak at a number of small but intense technology conferences. The nice things about these conferences is that attendees and speakers mingle much more than they do at the uber-conferences. If you feel like coming along to The Experts Conference, ShiftHappens, the European Collaboration Summit, or Experts Live Norway, you can learn more about Office 365 and associated technologies without going through the wildness that Ignite can be at times.
Last week, we taped episode 14 of the Office 365 Exposed podcast in Building 27 of Microsoft’s HQ in Redmond. Topics covered include battling attacks on Exchange, the need to upgrade old Exchange versions, Teams announcements at Enterprise Connect, and how the base Office 365 workloads handle retention storage. We think it’s an interesting episode. Get it from iTunes now!
A recent Petri.com article set out the case that the technical lead for Office 365 deployments is best found in the ranks of people experienced with Exchange. The uphot was a flurry of tweets where people who worked with SharePoint and Skype explained their (strong) feelings on the matter. The upshot was an online debate to explore the attributes of people who lead successful Office 365 deployments. You can listen to a recording online.
Office 365 changes all the time, which is good because it keeps the Office 365 for IT Pros writing team busy and happy. Discussions this week included Microsoft’s response to a Dutch DPIA, the effect large Teams have on Yammer, how Exchange Online validated a fix to a security problem, and graphics to help understand the components of the Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 plans.
After a brief hiatus, the recording for episode 13 of the Office 365 Exposed podcast is now available. We think it includes some interesting topics and the arguments aren’t too heated. See what you think and let us know in the comments.
On Wednesday, November 28, Tony’s speaking about Office 365 Data Governance at the European SharePoint Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. The topic is interesting, if only because its source material changes all the time.
Microsoft’s grand plan to send helpful emails to Office 365 users hit a roadblock when customers said “No thanks” to the idea. Microsoft has now taken the plan back for mature reflection. Does this kind of initiative reflect a certain arrogance on the part of Microsoft?
The Microsoft Graph developers and some other folks inside Microsoft have launched a new series of short blog posts to help people become acquainted with the Graph. It’s a nice idea, and one that’s worthwhile to read.
Office 365 continues to grow and has now reached the lofty heights of 155 million monthly active users. Just how long Microsoft can keep growing its cloud services is the question that no one can answer!
Tony spoke at the recent Ignite conference about the knotty subject of writing about technology. Have a listen and see if you’re attracted to become a writer.
Paul Robichaux and Tony Redmond took the chance to tape an episode of Office 365 Exposed at the Ignite 2018 conference. After uploading the video to Stream, it was interesting to see what Stream’s intelligent voice recognition technology made of the soundtrack when it came to creating an automatic transcript.
Ignite 2018 is over and the countdown to the 2019 event has begun. Ignite 2019 is back in Orlando again, but in November, so we have about 13 months to go. In that time you’ll want to catch up on what happened at Ignite 2018, which is exactly what the Office 365 for IT Pros team has started to do. Our next update is due on October 19 and we have lots to do.
If you attended Tony’s session at the Ignite conference about how to use PowerShell to get real stuff done inside Office 365, you might like a list of where to get the code examples, So here it is.
The Microsoft Ignite 2018 conference takes place in Orlando next week. The Office 365 for IT Pros team will be there to keep an eye on the announcements Microsoft and other vendors make about new technology. We’ll have a blast, and then come back to update the book.
Tickets for the European Collaboration Summit 2019 are now on sale at EUR160. That’s a great price for a 3-day conference. The 2018 event was good, but the agenda needs to be rebalanced to reflect more of Office 365.
Looking for a good podcast about Office 365? You could try the AllAbout365 podcast and we don’t think you’ll be too disappointed. Newly updated with a podcast recorded at the UK Evolve conference in October 2019.
if you’re planning to attend the Microsoft Ignite conference in Orlando in September 2018, make sure to meet up with the Office 365 for IT Pros team at the event.
